Sex With An Angel
PS, US The Albertans found each other in NYC & launched an 8-piece
theatrical music collective. Within 6 months, the band found itself
playing to packed houses. Now based out of Vancouver, they are touring
the US. Joel Bravo (BRAVO SILVA) leads the band vocally, touching
on references as disparate as the Flaming Lips & the Hold Steady
while injecting a theatricality hinted at in his songs for NY musicals.

Blows Your Mind is the classic debut album by Baby Woodrose originally

and although the sound is more lo-fi than usual on a Baby Woodrose
album the songs are among the best he ever wrote.

the psychedelic rock of the 1960s - borrowing from (and paying tribute
to) bands like The Rolling Stones and Jefferson Airplane - and crafting
an interesting, layered rock album in Chasing Rainbows. If you love
the Stones and the soundtracks to films investigating the liminal
period that the 60s and early 70s represented, Chasing Rainbows should

Vol. 1: Frozen Ropes & Dying Quails
PS, US Rock n' roll vets Scott McCaughey (MINUS 5, R.E.M., YOUNG FRESH

for music undermined only by an even more unhealthy love of baseball.
The compatriots blend their 2 passions w/ an album of buzzing guitars
& baseball back stories. Drummer Linda Pitmon (MIRACLE 3, GOLDEN
SMOG) & R.E.M.'s Peter Buck round out the squad. A passionately
funny & sarcastically reverent commentary on the state of the
sport, The Baseball Project provides a hip soundtrack to the backstage
party at America's game.

Black Kids
I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You
PS, UK Jacksonville, Fla., five-piece Black Kids aren't the type to
go on YouTube offering instructional videos for their shit-hot dance
moves, and it's hard to blame 'em. You practice for hours, pour out
a lifetime of blood, sweat, and tears, and then one day there you
are, impressing this awesome indie-pop girl with your Chris Brown-caliber
(OK, Napoleon Dynamite-caliber) steps. You're both having fun-- so
much fun, in fact, she wants you to reveal your tricks to her mook
boyfriend. Well, what-the-fuck-ever.
"I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How
to Dance With You" (sometimes referred to as "I'm Not Gonna
Teach You", but the band prefers the long title) describes, you
guessed it, pretty much just such a situation. From Black Kids' MySpace
and their Wizard of Ahhhs demo, this little juke joint grabs attention
like a breakdancer at a wedding reception with its scraggly lo-fi
guitar, peppy synths, and ebullient melodies. Reggie Youngblood's
vocals put a lighthearted spin on the ol' Robert Smith/Conor Oberst
quaver, while keyboardists Ali Youngblood and Dawn Watley cheer back
Go! Team-style atop Kevin Snow's emphatic drums. The reverb here can
get a bit cavernous, tending toward epic grandiosity over, say, the
Boy Least Likely To's low-key charm. But we're not suggesting Black
Kids should start biting anybody's moves. -Pitchfork

PS, US Dark Americana trio have brought subtly disturbing lyrics dressed
in soothing harmonies to those who will listen since 2003. Their sound
ranges from simple sea-shanty style folk to complex counterpoints

on a dark and stormy sea. For fans of John Prine, Dirty Three, and
Low.

Byrds
Live In Holland 1971
PS, US When The Byrds cut the two songs featured on Live In Holland
1971 they may have been nearing the end of the trail, but this totally
revamped Byrds lineup had plenty of firepower left in their mighty
arsenal. Byrds founding member/vocalist/12-string legend Roger McGuinn
-- along with guitar whiz Clarence White, bassist Skip Battin and
drummer Gene Parsons -- sound better than ever, sailing through muscular
renditions of new Byrds fave (and Dr. John tribute) 'Lover Of The
Bayou' and Dylan country-rock staple 'You Ain't Goin' Nowhere.' McGuinn
admits he kept the name of the legendary Los Angeles combo intact
for the sake of his old pal (and new fretboard foil). 'Clarence White
always wanted to be in The Byrds ... and now he had his chance,' says
McGuinn.

Another Dimension (2X10")
PS, US Double 10" release of original Columbia recordings from
1966, including 12 unheard tracks: instrumental takes, alternate vocal
mixes and extended versions from the legendary Fifth Dimension sessions.
"1966: Now heavily influenced by the earth-shaking creations
of two master musicians -- John Coltrane and Ravi Shankar -- the Byrds
began recording their new single, 'Eight Miles High' and 'Why,' along
with tracks for their upcoming album Fifth Dimension at Columbia Studios
in Hollywood. Growing more confident by the day in their studio acumen
and songwriting skills, the Byrds logged long nights of hypnotic in-studio
jamming, then hammered the white-hot magma into songs that will live
forever. A creative zenith in the Byrds' career, these fascinating
sessions deserve closer scrutiny than they've previously been afforded.
Alternate instrumental takes and extended experimental workouts give
essential insight here into the songs' final versions. Also included
are early versions of songs before the addition of any studio 'sweetening'
-- strings, percussion or sound effects. To top things off, we've
included a small handful of unique finds that give a 'fly-on-the-wall'
glimpse into the creation of one of the most important records of
our time. Limited edition: deluxe gatefold double 10" vinyl release."

Cars Can Be Blue
Doubly Unbeatable
PS, US 16 songs! Three years in the making! Two people who can barely
stand each other most of the time, who have endured emotional distress,
heartbreak, a grueling, botched disaster cross-country tour that resulted
in bankruptcy and homelessness. Since forming their strange musical
alliance in 2002, CARS CAN BE BLUE have strived to combat the inertia
of indie music's boring banalities with cheekily colorful aplomb.
Behold, "DOUBLY UNBEATABLE!" A joyous paroxysm of negative
energy culled from three years of uncertain circumstances and desperate
living, Becky Brooks and Nate Mitchell have filtered their own distrust
of humanity into a living document that is catchier and more compelling
than the volume that preceded it (2005's "All the Stuff We Do").
Yes, times have changed and the new CARS CAN BE BLUE attitude is sharper
and thornier than ever before, all of which translates into GREAT
NEWS for fans of real-deal rock-n-roll. This new batch of songs is
faster, louder and meaner than its predecessor.

Hope You're Good
PS, US 4 piece rock band that's equal parts Texas-style indie rock
and New England wintercore. Their sound ranges from spare, solemn
songs that bring to mind The Red House Painters, early Low, to the
cacophonous noise of "Sister" era Sonic Youth or classic

of sparse cymbal tings and snare cracks with ghostly guitar whines
in the distance" - The Bollard

Dead Man
Euphoria
PS, US Dead Man mine the birth of stoner rock, from the Grateful Dead
to Iron Butterfly, trippy and heavy in qual doses, and now they've
signed to Meteor City... Euphoria is much darker and heavier than
their debut self-titled album while maintaining a thoroughly vintage
vibe. There are bluesy up-tempo rockers alongside melodic folk-pop
masterpieces and an unexpected turn into dark and psyched-out heavy
rock. While their debut Self Titled album made a huge impact on the
stoner/prog rock fanatics, Euphoria will establish Dead Man with cult-status
like their contemporaries Witchcraft and Black Mountain have achieved.

Earlimart
Hymn & Her
PS, US ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "Hymn and Her features the same sun-baked
slices of indie pop that made Mentor Tormentor and Treble & Tremble
such appetizing fare. Bandmates Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray (now
the group's only two members) haven't sacrificed quality for speed;
they've simply shed their extra baggage, turning Earlimart from a
multi-membered musical collective into a fast-working duo. As before,
the new album places a big emphasis on sonic texture, but Espinoza
also offers up some of his most straightforward pop melodies. Acoustic
guitars chime over drum loops, keyboards bubble in the background,
and harmonies thicken the melodies, yet Hymn and Her still sounds
intimate, as if the bandmates have discovered how to funnel their
densely populated songs into warm, mellow washes of sound. It's ideal
music for headphones, where the clever production can reveal all of
its layers. At the same time, it's hard to imagine a setting in which
the relaxed chug of "Teeth" and "For the Birds"
wouldn't sound completely engaging."

Fallen Leaves, The
It's Too Late Now
PS, UK From defining Subway Sect to first & last word in garage
punk Rob Symmons is back with The Fallen Leaves. London's very own
group THE FALLEN LEAVES was formed in 2004 by Rob Green (Rob built
himself a reputation singing at Bernie Rhodes' "Club Left"
and by performing with Vic Godard's Subway Sect, notably supporting
Siouxsie & The Banshees at the Music Machine in '80), and by original
'76-'78 Subway Sect guitarist/founding member Rob Symmons whose distinctive
discordant, stinging guitar sound was one of the defining features
of the original Subway Sect which he formed with best friend Godard.
Memorably Subway Sect's debut gig was at the now historic "100
Club Punk Rock Festival" in Sept '76 where they kicked off the
first night, followed by their heroes the Sex Pistols, and The Clash.
Subway Sect turned out to be one of the most original and innovative
bands to emerge from the festival. Their first single "Nobody's
Scared" was released in Mar '78, but unfortunately for Symmons
by the time second single "Ambition" came out (Dec '78)
Bernie Rhodes (manager of both Subway Sect and The Clash) had persuaded
Vic Godard to sack the rest of band, and then somehow lost the band's
original album recordings. "Ambition" went straight to the
top of the indie charts selling 20,000 copies in a week and stayed
there for nine weeks. Symmons' amazingly didn't play guitar again
until he and long time friend Green formed The Fallen Leaves. Symmons
& Green share a love of 60's garage music, and ever-so stylish
vintage suits. THE FALLEN LEAVES' recordings are alive, heated and
humming - preferring as they do to use vintage valve amps & mics,
and recording live with no overdubs and minimal technology. They hark
back to DIY punk days and concentrate on delivering impressive songs
and performances.

Freeks, The
S-T
PS, GERMANY Suppose you are the drummer in Nebula (and also a member
of Fu Manchu) and have musical ideas that do not fit the band's style.
You could leave it be, or you could start a band of your own. Ruben
Romano chose the second option and in 2006 he left Nebula in order
to pursue his own ideas with a couple of friends. These friends were
not just anybody: John McBain (Monster Magnet), Scott Reeder (Kyuss),
Isaiah Mitchell (Earthless), Lorenzo Woodrose (Baby Woodrose), Jack
Endino (Skin Yard), John Cobbett (Ludicra), Bernie Worrell (Funkadelic)
and Jason Corbin (Bartenders Bible) participated in the eponymous
album by The Freeks. Judging from the names it should be a genuine
Stoner-supergroup, but do not expect a Desert Sessions part 11. The
Freeks is an entirely different cup of tea, or to be precise, a different
slice of cheese because in their bio the members of the band (Romano
on most instruments, McBain as producer, Reeder as engineer and the
others as session musicians on one or more tracks) are all referred
to as types of cheese. Freaky.

in the San Francisco music scene developing their sound. During this
period, Groundshaker played gigs at the Fillmore and every other venue
available in the Bay area. They decided to hock their amps and headed
to Los Angeles and quickly landed several gigs on the L.A. club circuit.

Meneguar
The In Hour
PS, US Switching instruments and experimenting with recording techniques,
Meneguar has cooked up a totally unique (and surprising) record. The
In Hour channels the spontaneity and aesthetics of Swell Maps, the
pop hooks of the Zombies, and lyrical collage of Guided By Voices.
Everything was home recorded at their little Xanadu in Brooklyn, Rear
House, home base to Jeremy Earl's Woodsist label (Blues Control, Sic
Alps, Wooden Wand, Jana Hunter) and the changing roster of Meneguar's
alter egos (Woods, Shepherds). Only six months since their last record,
The In Hour represents a serious departure that still holds true to
the band's undeniable pop sensibility.

One In A Million
Double Sight
PS, UK Featuring the precocious talents of 14-year-old guitarist Jimmy
McCulloch, Scottish band One In A Million's genre-defining December
1967 single 'Fredereek Hernando'/'Double Sight' is widely acknowledged
as one of the rarest and best British psychedelic singles of the era.
Naturally enough, that double-sided classic is included on this complete
anthology of the group's recordings, which also includes both sides
of their highly-regarded mod-pop debut single from January 1967 as
well as no less than seven previously unreleased, unknown-to-exist,
Who-influenced demo recordings from the same period. With a number
of hitherto unpublished photographs, comprehensive liner notes and
numerous quotes from lead singer and chief songwriter Alan Young,
Double Sight is the final word on one of the most intriguing and obscure
groups to emerge from the British psychedelic scene.

Otto Von Schirach
Oozing Bass Spasms
PS, UK The sado-booty ring-master is back again, that's right, Cock
Rock Disco is proud to present the new full length album by Otto Von
Schirach: "Oozing Bass Spasms". With enough porn and horror
samples to satiate the most demented programmer, and enough juicy
bass to placate the most voracious bass-head, Oozing Bass Spasms is
a masterwork by one of the world's most original artists. By far his
most approachable and even refined album, it's still pretty crazy
in a way that only Otto Von Schirach can provide. This time the overall
feeling of the album is more dance sounding; elements of Booty, Electro,
Breakcore, and Rave music all find a place in his bizarre universe.
From the first track "Subatomic Disco Divas" to the last
"Satanic Unicorn Orgy", we are spoon-fed outstanding beats
of all types, fractured and welded into ghettoized forms never seen.
"Magnetic Rave Headache" will probably be one of the hardest
breakcore tracks you've ever heard, and then the next song; "GELIATIN
FIXATION" is built around a dubstep bassline that would make
Scorn wet himself. His ballad "Her Blood Is Like Poison"
gets the ladies horny and the boys start the mosh-pit during "DJ
Hepatitis Tofuburger". But the party gets rowdy with his collaboration
with Liquido -"Romance in the Club"- an electro-club banger
like we rarely get anymore- it's positively soaked in party. Otto
Von Schirach (half Cuban / half German) was born in 1978 in the ghetto
in Miami. In 1995 he bought his first drum machine from a crack-head
just 2 blocks from his mom's house, and in 1998 Otto released his
first demo, which got him signed to a 4 album deal with Schematic
Records. In 2003 Otto worked on the Skinny Puppy album "The Greater
Wrong of the Right" and then tour with them now 3 times. In 2004
Miss Kitten had Otto remix her "Professional Distortion"
track for Nova Mute UK. Otto's last album, "Maxipad Detention",
was released by Mike Patton's Ipecac Recordings in 2006 to vast critical
and fan accolades world-wide. Otto is currently touring in Europe
with Einstürzende Neubauten (May), in the USA with Venetian Snares
(June), and will be back for a massive tour in collaboration with
porn-rap legend Blowfly (August-Sept).

it was barely released but has gone on to acquire a major cult reputation.

located in a New Orleans suburb. They recorded the album with good
home equipment with no overdubs. The original album ("the black
album," as they called it), released in 1979, was only pressed
300 times and during a moment of frustration, they took a box of the
album and shot it with a shotgun, making this a hard collector-find,
in the truest sense. The music is first class psych rock -- strong
compositions with great guitars and vocals -- everything just right
and something you would expect from bayou tough-guys -- pure Southern
spirit.

Sato, Minoru (M/S, SASW) + Asuna
Texture In Glass Tubes And Reed Organ
PS, JAPAN Two meltingly beautiful drone pieces made between 2 great
Japanese artists Sato Minoru (WrK) and ASUNA (Lucky Kitchen, Power
Shovel Audio...). We have been performing "music" focusing
on the materialistic nature (physical phenomena) of sounds by utilizing
the reed organ and glass tubes. Our music is composed and constructed
in such a way that however the phenomena we use reacts with the circumstances
of the space - the situation of the site including the audience -
our live performance involves and uses these conditions. Since these
compositions are studio recordings however, we decided to exclude
acoustic spatial matters and the 'one-time-ness' of live performances
and instead composed the structure of resonances within certain divisions
of time. This is similar to textiles - weaving "resonance's",
rather than thread, in certain patterns. "Superposing five harmonic
states" was developed by recording five harmonic states separately.
Each of the harmonies was obtained by finding the characteristic sound
effects made by the relationship of the chords of the organ and resonance's
of the glass tube. It was constructed by layering the recordings regularly
in certain passages of time. The resonances of the organ and the tubes
are left as they were originally recorded and the result is five separate
recordings woven into a single piece. "Weaving seven resonance's:
with raw stereo material" was developed by recording a state
where the resonance's keep a subtle balance between the relationship
of the organ and the glass tubes. From the originally recorded material
we found seven characteristics frequencies and reconstructed them
into a piece, by giving each individual volume a transition using
optionally assigned periodic variations. Thus this composition, made
of a single recording, is like a piece woven by one string. If our
live performances were to be evaluated as music where we are presented
with one-time incidents - i.e. reflecting the real time phenomena
as 'now and there' in the music - this CD could be evaluated as music
to analyze the sound structure of these phenomena and to make those
aspects audible. It is intended to create a narrative about the phenomena
that resonate through constructed sounds.

Shriekback
Cormorant [expanded re-issue]
PS, UK New, updated 2008 edition includes four extreme raritiies,
plus guest appearance from XTC's Andy Partridge... Since their birth
in 1982, Shriekback have managed to hack their own unique trail through
the sonic swamps never bothering to check in at the counter of convention,
the band, originally formed of refugees from XTC and Gang Of Four,
have led us through the curious mix of organics and mechanics that
was care, the clinical funk of Jam Science, the machine-free beauty
of Big Night Music and many other matchless works and they have always
sounded fresh and confident in comparison with any number of their
contemporaries. 2005 saw Shriekback's return to form on Malicious
Damage with this eagerly awaited 10th album, Cormorant. This latest
offering, as with many of their previous releases, provokes and seduces
in equal measures of a soulful, insistent and sometimes riotous collection
of songs and distracting instrumentals, the album features the ever
present musical heart of Shriekback - the vocal and lyrical alchemy
of Barry Andrews, and the percussive bedrock of Martyn Barkers enriching
this formidable partnership is a rare blend of shriek collaborators
- Mark Raudva (co-production, mandolins & bass), Carlo Asciutti
and Wendy Partridge (vocals) make a welcome return to spice up the
mix, Barry's son Finn Andrews takes a break from the veils to add
some vocals, while Shriek virgin Andy Partridge contributes some fiery
guitar work, playing alongside Barry Andrews for the first time in
the many years since the early incarnation of XTC. BONUS, 'Cormorant's
Egg' eggstra tracks: "Month Of Sand", "Planet",
"Nimbulus", and "Thumbless". (total run time 66m

Siena Root
Far from the Sun
PS, SWEDEN Far from the Sun offers swirling guitars and groundbreaking
song structures. This is 70's influenced psychrock at its best with
influences from classic bands like Captain Beyond and Led Zeppelin.
STONERROCK.COM: "Most classic rock traditionalists seem to focus
on the bombastic heavy blues variety - think Deep Purple, Cactus,
Grand Funk Railroad, Skynyrd, ZZ Top - hell, even Bachman Turner Overdrive.
While Sweden's Siena Root does tip their hat numerous times to that
list of greats, they still ultimately follow a different path down
memory lane. 'Far From the Sun', the band's third album, steers the
band towards the late 60's Haight-Ashbury district. There's a hippie-sensibility
to their jam-like tunes, and that, coupled with frontwoman Sanya's
soulful vocals, brings them closer to the likes of Big Brother and
the Holding Company and/or Jefferson Airplane, with some of Jethro
Tull's folk-based inclinations."

available), this represents Fluxus-inspired drone and improvisation
at its peak. The line up for this album is: Takehisa Kosugi (electronic

Them
S-T
PS, UK The complicated life of this legendary UK R&B outfit was
almost over when this, their penultimate album, appeared in 1970.
Astonishingly, by then they were reduced to a duo consisting of original
bassist Alan Henderson and U.S. vocalist/percussionist Jerry Cole.
It ranges from pounding psychedelia ("I Keep Singing") and
snotty garage punk ("Lonely Weekends," a shameless rewrite
of "Gloria") to furious rock and roll ("Jo Ann")
and even a country ballad ("Take A Little Time"). As the
original sleevenotes declared: "The Them sound combines the typical
British style with an air of mystery and an atmosphere of excitement...
mythical, mystical, Oriental, African, electronic and computer rhythms
included."

a searing medley of the Them classics "Gloria" and "Baby
Please Don't Go," boasting superb interplay and savage psychedelic

muscles on a series of powerful compositions, and even an acid folk
number. Like its equally overlooked predecessor, this lost classic

Trees
Lights Bane
PS, US Trees seems an odd choice of name for this Portland quartet,
who ooze a ponderously slow brand of psychedelic black doom. Then
you remember that trees are not always the friendliest of plants.
Whether the bristling skeletal tangle scraping at your window as a
kid, or a massive, lightning-scarred oak ready to crack and obliterate
everything in the forest below, trees have the power to terrorize
and destroy as well. And that's kind of what this 2-song experience
is like - wandering through a primeval forest, surrounded by these
solemn, unknowable, age-old giants, and never knowing which one is
going to come smashing down and reduce you to mulch. Throughout both
tracks, "Nothing" and "Black", Trees randomly
releases gargantuan crashes of low-end guitar, and then waits until
the shockwave of feedback settles across the forest floor before dropping
the next juggernaut. And all the while, a blackened shriek echoes
across the scene, like the tree-dodging camerawork from Evil Dead
2 given a hollow, awful voice.

A Shoreline Dream w/ Ulrich Schnauss
Neverchanger (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 8TH)
PS, US Melodipsych rockers A Shoreline Dream started piecing "neverChanger",
(a song touching on the never ending & confusing reality of life
repeating itself over and over) back in November 2007. Coincidentally
soon before that they found out while on tour with Innaway (their
psych peers) that Ulrich became a fan of theirs after purchasing "Avoiding
the Consequences". He sent out an email to all his fans saying
he was currently listening to the album. Swiftly Ryan Policky (vocalist,
guitarist & songwriter of the track) got in touch with Ulrich
to see if they could collaborate. A few short weeks after that "neverChanger"
came back to life as a co-produced effort. Kramer (producer of Low,
Dot Allison & Urge Overkill) finished off the mastering. Named
one of URB Magazine's NEXT 100 for 2008, A Shoreline Dream has been
best described as a "melodipsych / post rock" band combining
lush sampled textures, organic instrumentation, and vocals layered
like a synth similar in vein to bands such as Ride, Slowdive and Sigur
Rós. Originating in Barnum, Colorado they are steadily reaching
out to an international fan base, which includes producers Ulrich
Schnauss and Kramer (Ween / Butthole Surfers) currently working with
them on upcoming material. When they formed in 2005 they all decided
to take a stand against the restrictions of a normal label and formed
their own (latenight weeknight records). In the Fall of 2006, a shoreline
dream released their debut album "avoiding the consequences"
with a full scale attack using Ryan's house as collateral, garnering
the band attention on several samplers for Landmark Theatres, Urban
Outfitters, The Sundance Film Festival, Paste Magazine among others.
Critics from Filter Magazine, Paste Magazine, XLR8R, Skyscraper, and
Westword gave the band very high marks. The band released the EP "Coastal"
in July of 2007, which has landed them spots on samplers for Vice
Magazine, Paste Magazine, XLR8R, Landmark Theatres and Urban Outfitters.
In September of 2007 the band toured with INNAWAY, and they are currently
co-producing a track with Ulrich Schnauss and setting up a short tour
with him, Soundpool and Experimental Aircraft for July of 2008 in
Austin, Dallas & Denver.

Soothing parts that remind you of Captain Beefheart & My Bloody
Valentine, or some punk w/ a haunting reggaeton pulse that makes you

are left feeling that there is something they are trying to tell you,
on second listen it smacks you in the face.

Action Biker
Hesperian Puisto (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 12TH)
PS, SWEDEN It really is time for Action Biker's first solo album!
It has now been six years since she emerged as an artist doing fun
and popular live shows and releasing CD-R's in the indie pop scene
of Gothenburg, Sweden, which included people like Jens Lekman and
The Honeydrips. Since then, Sarah Nyberg Pergament has been involved
in other projects, such as Flow Flux Clan, Kissing Mirrors and The
Dreamers, whose record "Day For Night" has received great
acclaim from different places around the world. Over the years, Sarah
has also performed lots of Action Biker shows (some, as an opening
act for Le Tigre and The Embassy), contributed to recordings with
Lars Blek (The Field), Differnet and The Honeydrips, and all this
time, new recordings with Action Biker have popped up on compilations
and singles. In brief, when "Hesperian Puisto" finally is
released, it means the début of someone with a lot of experienceŠ
The record is named after the Hesperian park in Helsinki, Finland,
where Sarah lived for a while. She describes her music as baroque
on synthesizers. It is pop music built on complex naivety - altogether
very accessible music with distinct vocals and a crispy, sweet, analogue
sound. Two great-looking videos are also included on the CD. References
and Influences: Young Marble Giants, Broadcast, Dislocation Dance,

Like it or Not EP (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 8TH)
PS, US The Australian sextet is back with their 3rd single from their
critically lauded new album Places Like This. The band has been on
a tear since the album's release in fall of 2007, selling over 25,000
copies in the US in under a year. On top of that, they made their
debut on the Billboard charts in the first week of release, peaked
at #3 on the CMJ Top 200, and sold out several clubs nationwide on
their fall 2007 tour. With the Like It or Not EP, the band finally
records "One Heavy February" and "Beef in Box,"
which are two long-time crowd favorites from their live shows, to
accompany the single version of "Like It or Not". To top
it off there is a "Like It or Not" remix by one of 2008
biggest buzz bands, El Guincho.

Black Sun Ensemble
Across the Sea of Id: The Way to Eden (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 8TH)
PS, US Quite possibly the final BSE release after an illustrious career
of nearly 25 years. It marks a return to the beloved semi-acoustic
style of their first few releases, and also - due to public demand!
- contains no vocals. It is a mixture of new readings of past tracks
& new compositions. The new material offers a singular, dreamy
vision of BSE's potentially final works. The two title tracks, Across
the Sea of Id and Eden Song, are reflective, yet hallucinatory explorations
into Jesus Acedo's unique compositional & melodic sensibility.
While Angel de la Guardia has a refined yet explosive rock swagger,
it is balanced by the meditation Perelandra & La Paz. The CD also
contains a video of the band performing the signature BSE piece "Dove
of the Desert"

Blurt
The Factory Recordings (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 8TH)
PS, UK 12 tracks. LTM is pleased to present an archive CD of recordings
made in for the legendary Factory Records label by cult band Blurt,
the unclassifiable punk-jazz trio led by Ted Milton. Formed in Stroud
in 1979, Blurt consisted of Ted Milton (sax, vocals), brother Jake
Milton (drums) and guitarist Pete Creese. Ted had already attracted
the attention of Factory founder Tony Wilson as a puppeteer (!), and
were invited to join the label. Blurt performed at several Factory
showcase gigs in London between April and August 1980, and recorded
one side of the double compilation album A Factory Quartet (FACT 24).
Although their anarchic shows and music drew rave reviews, Blurt were
frustrated by delays in releasing their Factory recording, and the
last minute loss of a Factory tour of Europe in October. A live album,
Live In Berlin, was recorded in December 1980 and scheduled for release
as a 10" on Factory Benelux, but canceled after Blurt annoyed
Wilson by comparing the Factory label to lifestyle boutique Habitat.
The set was subsequently released as In Berlin on Armageddon, its
memorable cover featuring a photograph of a pile of pink rubbish sacks.
Digitally remastered, The Factory Recordings combines all tracks from
A Factory Quartet and In Berlin, including Blurt favorites My Mother
Was a Friend of an Enemy of the People, Ubu, Puppeteers of the World
Unite and Cherry Blossom Polish. The booklet features archive images
and detailed sleevenotes. Ted Milton and Blurt still perform regularly
in both Britain and Europe, and remain an undervalued national treasure.

Brazzaville
21st Century Girl (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 8TH)
PS, US DAVID ARTHUR BROWN was a runaway on the streets of Los Angeles
at the age of 15. It was during this period that he began keeping
a journal and writing poetry. At the age of 18 he wound up living
in San Francisco, washing dishes at a local punk rock/gay restaurant
to save up money to buy a saxophone. Through much effort and low budget
travel (India, South America, Europe and the Far East) he was able
to hone his skills to a level that landed him gigs with the likes
of Beck, Siouxie Sioux , Ben Lee and Jude. In 1997 while on tour with
Beck, David got the idea to form Brazzaville. He bought a little guitar
on a trip through Barcelona and in the wee hours of touring began
writing the songs that would become the first Brazzaville record.
In 2008, Brazzaville has tours planned in Europe, Russia, China, Turkey
and the USA to promote "21st Century Girl", their seventh
full length release, available this summer on The Bus Stop Label.
NEW YORK TIMES: "Think of Brazzaville as vagabond pop for fans
of Morphine, Tom Waits, Spain, Leonard Cohen and Tindersticks."
THE NEW YORKER: "Brazzaville crafts sophisticated pop where languid
bossa-nova-influenced rhythms and gritty lyrics conjure dark deeds
on steamy dead-end streets."

California Oranges
Imperial Hearts (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 22ND)
PS, US Our Sacramento, CA indie-pop all stars return with a gem of
a pop/rock album full of hooky choruses, call and response guitars
and a super tight power-pop rhythm section. A pow-pow-powerful good
good feeling! Just as you'd expect from this seasoned music family.
Bask in the summer sun with the fourth album from the golden state's
California Oranges and a healthy dose of the sunshine power pop they're
known for. Underlying the power is a healthy dose of pop: Delicately
concocted, contemplative songs exploring life's ups and downs. The
quintet has hit their stride on Imperial Hearts. The record features
the same line up as their 2005 release Souvenirs: John Conley (Holiday
Flyer), Verna Brock (Rocketship, Beanpole, Holiday Flyer, Sinking
Ships), Ross Levine (Sinking Ships), Katie Haley (Holiday Flyer, Sinking
Ships), and Matt Levine (Sinking Ships). The album was jointly produced
by the California Oranges and Dana Gumbiner (Night Night, Deathray).
Imperial Hearts was mixed by long time friend of the band, producer/engineer,
Eric Stenman (Saves the Day, The Comas, The Cab). The California Oranges
construct songs filled with, "soaring boy/girl harmonies, rapid-fire
licks of squeaky clean and buzz saw dirty guitar work, consistently
up-tempo beats, and melodies that would make tone deaf kitten haters
want to sing along" --Popmatters. "Power pop has rarely
sounded as sweet." --Treblezine. TRACK LIST: 1. Brand New Spine,
2. We've Got Time, 3. Travel Writer, 4. Anywhere USA, 5. I Still Hold
On, 6. Silver Shoes, 7. Feel Better, 8. Waiting Is Slow, 9. I Told

Centromatic/South San Gabriel
Dual Hawks (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 8TH)
PS, US Keeping track of the distinctions between Centro-matic and
South San Gabriel could be a full-time effort, if one were so inclined.
Based in Denton, Texas, Centro-matic once titled an album South San
Gabriel Songs/Music, only to give a splinter faction of the participating
musicians-meaning Centro-matic and more friends-the name South San
Gabriel and release that album in Europe under the new band name.
South San Gabriel includes the four core members of Centro-matic,
plus additional members, but we'll get to that shortly. You might
be inclined to say that Centro-matic material tends to be more rockin',
with SSG its mellow, literary counterpart, and Will Johnson's solo
material as...well...usually (how shall I put this?) skinny-dipping
in the abyss-but it would be a gross oversimplification. Each of these
projects shares all of the aforementioned respective qualities and
more. What is distinctive about the release of Dual Hawks is that
we get the chance to hear side-by-side the various ways in which Centro-matic
and South San Gabriel complement and play off of each other-sort of
the full-length equivalent of a split single.

Clientele, The
That Night, A Forest Grew (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 29TH)
PS, SPAIN This is the third, and last, of a trilogy of E.P.s the Clientele
have recorded for Acuarela. They have always used the Acuarela E.P.s
as a way to stretch out between albums, to create a through-the-looking-glass
version of the band that shadows the better-known history of their
albums. 'Ariadne' experimented with drones and minimalism; 'The Lost
Weekend' stretched the foggy sound of their debut to epic proportions.
In contrast "That Night, a Forest Grew' is the most commercial
and -shockingly- danceable thing they've ever recorded. Part Bacharach,
part Television, part Orange Juice, the E.P. shares the pristine clarity,
light and shade of 'God Save the Clientele', but adds a new element
of summer pop perfection. This is The Clientele as a hazily remembered
1970s cartoon series, all distanced off-key colors; imaginary summer
hits, radio waves beamed in from a dream-discotheque.

PS, US Ballsout psych-rock-garage-soul from Long Beach long-hairs:
rips, shreds, thrashes... Fans of Wooden Shjips' mind-numbingness
and A Place To Bury Strangers' visceral intensity will find this majorly
mandatory. PITCHFORK: "Merging psych, garage, lo-fi, prog, and
countless other influences, the group easily maintains consistency
despite a complete inability to be pinned to any specific movement
or trend... It's tempting to be patient and call this disc a stopgap
on the way to a triumphant debut full-length. But EP is plenty substantial
as is; at 25 minutes, it's only a few shy of Nouns or, more to the
point, any number of psych-rock classics from decades past."
